Bryce, Zion & North Rim
Day 5 - Jacob Lake to North Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

Jean climbing on the Kaibab Plateau
|
We woke to the sound of thunder approaching from
the distance. We quickly packed up camp and hit the road. We continued climbing up the
Kaibab Plateau.
As we gained elevation, we started seeing
some color in the aspens. We stopped briefly to wait out a thunderstorm.
We stopped at a convenience store and
met a couple from Holland, Peter and Debbie. They are cycling from Seattle to Costa Rica with
a visit to Alaska. Debbie climbed Smithsonian Butte Road (the dirt road we walked up).
She earned our respect.
I felt burst of energy as I approached
the North Rim. I accelerated past the rest of the rest of the group.
When we got to the North Rim, we invited
Peter and Debbie to camp with us.

Another thunderstorm rolled in as
we were setting up camp. We waited it out. Dave, Duane and I walked out to the canyon
to take pictures of the sunset over the canyon.

Peter and Debbie

We walked back to camp and spent a
delightful evening with Peter and Debbie. It's so interesting to share experiences with
someone from another country with similar interests.
