Seattle to San Francisco
Epilogue

Moooove Over!
|
I am now on an airplane somewhere above
the Western United States. Here are some random notes on the trip.
In 17 days of loaded touring I
experienced no mechanical problems (not even a flat tire) and 1/2 day of rain. It
rained once or twice at night and I had some foggy drizzle on a couple of mornings.
But, I only put my rain gear on once.
For those of you on the touring list,
the S&S couplings worked out well again this year. This was my first point-to-point
tour. Shipping the case ahead worked out very well. Fortunately UPS did not abuse
my case. I highly recommend the couplings to anyone who flies with a bike.

I really liked San Francisco.
I would have liked a couple of more days to explore the city.
I might even come back next
year and tour the rest of the coast from San Francisco down to the Mexican border.
We'll see.
I had some problems with
my front panniers falling off the rack. I will probably buy better panniers
with a stronger retention mechanism this winter.
What is up with these little
fold-up scooters? Every kid out here has one. They are all the rage. Why can't I
come up with something like that? I could spend the rest of my life touring.
In California, there was this
weed that smelled like licorice growing everywhere. I was told that it was called fennel.
Oregon is an incredibly bike friendly
state. The highway department went to great lengths to accommodate cyclists. The
hiker-biker sites in Oregon State Parks were excellent.
I did not feel the Napa earthquake.
I heard about it on the radio.
