Day 9 Bullard Beach State Park, to Harris Beach, OR

I left Bullard Beach just after 8:30 a.m. The North wind started early and blew hard all day. The ride to Port Orford was unremarkable. About 15 miles into the ride I reached the county line and exited the jurisdiction of the Coos County Sheriff's Department. Adios boys!

Southern Oregon Coast

Seastacks

Starting at Port Orford, I saw many incredible ocean views. This part of the coast is loaded with seastacks (large rocks located just off the beach).

The wind blew me South past Humbug Mountain. I stopped in Gold Beach for groceries. Shortly after that I started climbing Cape Sebastion. I'm beginning to learn that out here "Cape" means mountain that sticks out into the sea. In cycling terms, it means gear down and climb. At the top of Cape Sebastion, I turned off 101 for a very steep climb to a disappointing overlook.

I descended and then climbed up Cape Ferrelo. By this time I was beat. I dragged my tail into the camp around six. After supper, I watched the Sun set into the Pacific again.

While I was typing this, a ranger came by to tell us that a young cougar had been spotted in the campground. He said they were going to bring in a government trapper to relocate it. If you get this message you will know that I didn't get eaten tonight. Lions and tigers and bears! Oh, my!
