Day 16 Yarmouth to Portland, ME

I got breakfast at a bagel place in Yarmouth.  After breakfast I rode down to the ferry terminal to wait for the boat.  The ferry pulled up to the dock.  We were allowed to board.  I secured my bike and strolled up to the sun deck to get a good view of the harbor.  Waiters and waitresses circulated through the crowd selling beers and bloody Marys.  It was only 9:30 AM.  That's just a bit early for me.

It was a nice day and the decks were pretty crowded.  We sailed through Yarmouth Harbor.  I got a final look at the Cape Forchu Light as we sailed into Gulf of Maine.  The wind really picked up when we got out into the open ocean.  The crowd on the deck thinned out rapidly.  I sat on the deck and read for a while with a cold beer.

After a while I got sick of the cold and headed into the main lounge.  I got a seat next to some large windows.  I continued my reading and watching the ocean.   I saw some dolphins swimming ahead of the bow like the scene in Titanic.

They darkened the lounge to show a movie.  I had no interest in watching Mr. Magoo.  I found another spot to read for a while.

I had a buffet supper later in the day in the main dining room.   After dinner, I returned to the lounge and listened to the same band that played on the outbound trip.  After the band they had a hokey floor show.  Some kind of musical review of the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Shortly after the show, we arrived in Portland.  After the hassle I got on the outbound trip, I was a little nervous about going through customs.  However, it was a very easy crossing.  No dogs. No third degree.  I simply told the officer where I lived and where I was born.  He waived me right through.

I rode a hundred yards or so to where I parked my truck.  I loaded the Poor Boy Touring Rig in to the bed and drove home.  The following morning, I started a new chapter in my career. I estimated my total mileage for today at less than 1.
